Tax Manager

Competitive salary

Great opportunities for career progression

Following continued growth in the tax department and winning some impressive new clients there is a clearly defined need for an experienced Tax Manager to deliver high quality advisory and compliance work while also leading the team of compliance professionals. The successful candidate can also assist in the continued growth of the business through business development and networking activities.

The role is based in the centre of Bury with excellent access to the motorway network, the Metrolink and the Bus interchange, making travel in and out of work very easy. We are a member of an international accounting alliance making us perfectly placed to assist our clients with international financial reporting, taxation and practical business matters.

The Role
The role is a mixture of advisory work and management responsibilities on some of our larger and more complex compliance clients. The candidate will work closely with the Tax Partners to deliver a range of projects, which, depending on the candidate’s experience, may include:

  • Tax advice to OMBs, such as corporation tax planning, R&D claims, property acquisitions and disposals, group reorganisations, capital allowances, EMI option schemes and some international tax matters.
  • Tax advice to business owners, including income tax planning, advising on the acquisition and disposal of businesses and properties, inheritance tax/estate planning.
  • Dealing with HMRC enquiries and investigations, including report writing, financial analysis and technical research.
  • Providing a technical resource to the firm’s network of smaller accountants, primarily through a telephone and email helpdesk support service.
  • Supervision and review of the compliance work on some of the firm’s larger and more complex corporate clients.

This is a role with opportunities for progression and may be ideal for a strong assistant manager or manager looking for a new and exciting challenge. A key part of the role will be to manage and develop the talented people within your team.

Given the wide-ranging nature of the role, the successful candidate will be able to demonstrate solid experience of advising OMBs on a range of tax issues, including corporation tax, income tax and capital gains tax. Some exposure to VAT issues would also be an advantage but is not a prerequisite.

It is anticipated that the successful candidate will have a professional tax or accountancy qualification with at least 5 years PQE gained in tax practice. An additional accountancy qualification, in particular ACA, would be looked on favourably. Other qualities we will look for are:

  • Strong interpersonal and team skills.
  • The confidence to deal directly with clients and partners.
