Next steps with Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme, updated 15 April

16 April 2020

As you have probably heard, the system to submit refund applications under the CJRS is due to open on Monday 20 April. Various new updates have been released in the last few days, including:

  1. Agents who have full authorisation for a client’s PAYE affairs will be able to submit the applications through the agent’s Government gateway account. This is a change to the earlier guidance which said that all companies had to have their own registration for the online PAYE services through their own gateway accounts.
  2. It seems that applications for CJRS grants will be submitted for each pay period, which is a change from the earlier guidance that they could only be submitted every three weeks.  We are waiting for further clarification on this.

The information needed to make a claim is as follows:

  • your employer PAYE reference number
  • the number of employees being furloughed in each pay period
  • Names and National Insurance numbers for the furloughed employees
  • Payroll/works number for the employees you want to furlough
  • your ten digit Corporation Tax Unique Taxpayer Reference (for companies) or Self Assessment UTR (for sole traders)
  • the claim period (start and end date)
  • amount claimed (per the minimum length of furloughing of 3 consecutive weeks)
  • your bank account number and sort code
  • your contact name
  • your phone number
